If you want some of the Height Field masks to be exported to Unreal as non weight-blended layers, you must add a Primitive String attribute to your heightfield named unreal_landscape_layer_nonweightblended. Values are converted from Houdini’s (min, max) to (0, 255) in UE.īy default, Height Field masks converts to weight-blended landscape layers. ![]() ![]() Target Layers are converted from Houdini’s 32-bits float to Unreal 8-bits unsigned int. This is useful when outputing tiled landscapes to ensure that all tiles are converted in the same manner. This works on the height data, but also on any masks that converts to a landscape layer. When converting heightfield data to landscapes, you can specify the min and max values used for the conversion by adding the unreal_landscape_layer_min and unreal_landscape_layer_max float attributes. This creates a landscape that has a “standard” scale factor on the Z axis. This likely results in a precision loss during the conversion and may clip the heightfield values if they are too high. You can also use the default unreal conversion values in the plugin settings, by enabling the Use default Unreal Scaling option in Geometry Marshalling. For example, a 4km high landscape will have a precision (on the Z axis) of 8.13 cm by default, or 6.10 cm if that option is activated. If you would rather use maximum precision for the data conversion, activate the Marshalling Landscapes Use Full Resolution setting in the Geometry Marshalling section. This allows you to sculpt the landscape past its min/max values afterwards in Unreal. This results in a small precision loss when creating Landscape from a Heightfield.īy default, Landscapes generated by Houdini Engine uses 3/4 of the available 16 bits range for conversion. height is used to specify the height layer, visiblitycontrols the visibility layer and other layers are assumed to be paint layers.Īs Unreal uses 16-bits integers for Landscapes and Houdini uses 32-bits floats to represent the height values, the data needs to be converted. The name of each Target Layer is taken directly from the name of each Primitive in Houdini. The name of the Baked Edit Layer can be specified with unreal_landscape_editlayer_name. During Baking, these temporary layers are removed and the final layer is generated. Previous versions of the Houdini Engine plugin used temporary Landscape Actors during cooking, but this is no longer support as it does not work with World Partition.Īfter cooking, the plugin generates an Edit Layer for data found during cooking. The Houdini Engine plugin makes extensive use of Edit Layers during cooking to build up temporary Landscape data which can be viewed and disabled in the Unreal Editor. These are Paint Layers, Visibility Layers, and Sculpt (or height) Layers.Įdit Layers seperate different Landscape Layers into user-controllable layers which can be built by the user. Target Layers control different properties of a Landscape. ![]() ![]() "I was an emotional wreck but now it is the best feeling ever to watch your son win Wimbledon," she said. I'm not opposed to these type of storylines, I was just expecting more out of this series by now. We get to see Kyle fight through horrible odds time and time again, and of course he comes up with crazy plans for each circumstance. This isn't a bad book by any means, it just didn't take the turn I was hoping for. With where Stellar Fox left us, I was expecting more out of Battle Group Avalon. The Hubster and I highly recommend the Castle Federation series to all Science Fiction Fantasy and/or Space Opera fans! What could be better than Space Opera and Magic?!?! Our plan is to catch up with the Castle Federation and move on to his Starship Mage series. We hadn't heard of the author before picking up book one, Space Carrier Avalon, but now that we've found his work, we are happily binging our way through the series. I should mention that this book popped up as a random recommendation through Goodreads. If you decide to give them a try, make sure you read them in order. Thankfully, my library hold just came through! If you enjoy lots of action and military strategy, you'll love these books. However, the ending left both of us breathless and eager to dive into book four. Of course, this is war and war doesn't occur without loss. Together, they are tasked with taking back the worlds previously captured and enslaved by the Torren Federation.ĭid I mention how much we loved this book? It was incredible and held us in suspense multiple times. Each ship is heavily armed and transporting multiple squadrons of pilots, smaller spaceship fighters, and powerful marines. The war is not going well and he is placed in charge of a fleet of four carriers (Battlegroup Avalon). In this story, Roberts faces his biggest challenge yet. Many of the victories won under Roberts' command have been part luck, part genius, but always highly creative when it comes to battle strategy. Together they have battled the relentless Torren Federation, a vicious enemy that is slowly gaining ground by invading and/or destroying entire worlds near the Castle system. All of the books have been well written and exciting, but this one is by far our favorite!įor three books, we've followed Captain Kyle Roberts and his crew on multiple missions aboard the Avalon. WOW! This book held The Hubster and I spellbound! Battlegroup Avalon is book three in the Castle Federation, an exciting space opera series written by Glenn Stewart. ❖ ❖ ❖ An ebook/Audiobook Buddy Read w/The Hubster ❖ ❖ ❖ ![]() I’m already wondering at how Kyle is going to handle things, the machinations of Walkingstick and how the next book is going to unfold. Even our captain throws open the door to ideas and is prepared to try them. I liked that each lead character from each group was open to ideas and had someone who was prepared to offer the wild and crazy. Through out the book we focus not only on Kyle but also characters from the Space Fighters - Michael Stanford from previous books and the Marines - El-Maj Edvard Hansen is already a favourite of mine - and I should correct that to the Castle damned Marines (wolf howl). Ones that made me gasp and know I’ll miss the character. This means we witness some stellar battle plays to try and outwit the enemy. ![]() Of course there are complications that mean that he can’t quite follow orders. ![]() Kyle Roberts is given the task of playing a cat and mouse game with the enemy fleet. It’s action packed, tense and kept me glued to the story. I went from 67% to 91% seemingly without blinking. The action heats up around half way and I read the second half of the book in one sitting. I think for a while I was looking around corners, as it were, wondering if there was a hidden enemy yet to be introduced. I don’t mean to imply it wasn’t interesting reading because it was. This part for me dragged a little, but I think that was more due to my sporadic reading of it rather than any fault of the book. ![]() It encompasses the strategy sessions, the meetings to discuss worst case scenarios and the planning / practice sessions to ensure a win. The first third of the book is a military campaign. Instead we have our hero Kyle being what he should be - in relation to our world building - a junior captain (per time in the role) working as part of a battle group under the aegis of a senior admiral. It doesn’t lack in quality but you don’t have an immediate bad guy or conspiracy to focus on. This book is different from it’s predecessors. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. ![]() ![]() observed that nocturnal lagophthalmos was common in people of the Amharic race in Ethiopia, and some of these developed inferior corneal scarring possibly related to this. Nocturnal lagophthalmos with the eyes partly open during sleep is a fairly common phenomenon, frequently observed in normal individuals. Blink frequency and quality were also observed on the slit lamp and if the patient did not achieve full closure whilst blinking, this was considered as a positive indication of nocturnal lagophthalmos. The examination for nocturnal lagophthalmos involved asking the patient to close their eyes as if they were asleep and the lid position was evaluated after approximately 30 sec on the slit lamp using a very fine slit beam. During the latter, the ophthalmologist documented the presence or absence of corneal epitheliopathy, Bell’s phenomenon and lagophthalmos. There is considerable evidence that tear production is reduced during sleep and that the eye is in a relatively dry state. This can occasionally lead to symptoms and signs. In some individuals, the eyes may remain partly open during some parts of the sleep cycle (physiological lagophthalmos). The act of sleeping involves closing our eyes.
